MICHAEL R. WATSON

Throughout my career, I’ve led teams that have collectively hired over 25,000 professionals for organizations like Aerotek, Robert Half, Polycom, Western Digital, Workday, Rambus, and Gigamon. In 2018, I became one of the first adopters of AI in HR as a customer of Eightfold.ai—back when the idea of using AI in HR was practically unheard of. The experience was transformative, and I knew this was going to change everything about how we approached talent.

In 2020, I joined Eightfold.ai during their infancy. At the time, the company had about 50 people, most of them engineers. Those of us with HR experience? You could count us on one hand. It was exhilarating to be part of something so innovative but also challenging to bridge the gap between the technical world of AI and the practical realities of HR. That blend of technical expertise and real-world HR knowledge became my niche, and over the last 5 years, I’ve helped some of the world’s largest organizations design and implement AI-driven HR strategies.

When the world shut down in 2020, I found myself in an unexpected place. I was in California, thrilled by what I had just accomplished with AI in HR, but suddenly isolated—unable to network or share my excitement with others. Writing became my outlet. I started working on professional books about how to use AI in HR. It was my way of processing everything I’d learned and sharing it with others during those dark, uncertain days.

Every nonfiction book I write is 100% rooted in real-life experiences—there’s no theory here. I’ve walked the walk and have the results to prove it. If you’re looking to cut down your AI in HR learning curve, you’ve found your trusted voice.

Today, my work continues to be fueled by those early experiences. Everything I share with you is rooted in real-world practice: as an end user, a 25-year veteran of HR, and someone who has been immersed in AI and HR for the past 7 years. It’s safe to say I’m one of the world’s foremost experts on using AI in HR—but I don’t come to this from an ivory tower. I’ve been where you are. I’ve been the recruiter, the hiring manager, the HR leader. I’ve been the skeptic and the advocate.

Growing up with military parents who instilled in me the values of hard work, dedication, and service to others, I’ve always felt a deep sense of purpose in what I do. That’s why I’ve dedicated my career to using AI as a force for good—helping individuals find meaningful careers and helping organizations discover the right talent.
